This is Adam Goess, Senior Product Director at Thermacell.
I love products. Some may even say that I have made a career of it. Thermacell strives to delight the consumer by providing products that focus on user enjoyment and experience enhancement. We innovate with intention, purpose, integrity, and excitement. We launched the first rechargeable mosquito repeller all the way back in 2018. It was good but then we asked how could it be better?
The easiest way to answer the question was by listening, observing, and talking with consumers. An old product tenet is to always listen to the problem the consumer describes. We did just that with the E55. We started a reinvention of the product from the ground up. Building on the excellent experience a 20ft zone of protection offers, we looked at how we can make the usage easier, more informative, and more intuitive. We ideated, tested, ideated, tested, ideated, tested… you get the picture. We designed an audio and visual user interface that allows the consumer to know that they turned it on, that its warming up, that its actively working, that the battery is low and at the end of the day that they turned it off. We made it easy to charge. We looked at how consumers carry the product to evaluate how strong to make the magnetic top. We looked at the size. We looked at the shape. We looked at the texture. We looked at the color. We tested, changed, tested, and changed all while learning what consumers really wanted. That result was the E55.
The E55 was by far our most successful product launch up to that point. We not only developed an awesome product but also a process to ensure that the consumer is always an active partner in our development process. We continue to listen and learn thinking about how we can make it even better. We live by the idea of never stop learning and always challenge ourselves.
