Thermacell products should be used according to label directions. This does not include wearing the repeller during use. Thermacell products work best when placed on a flat surface and may not be as effective when worn. Accessories that may allow for attaching the repeller to your body are only meant for transporting the device. Our products should not be worn while in the holster or with the clip, the devices get hot 385F. Our products work best when they are placed flat on a surface with the heat plate facing up, this is the optimal positioning of the device in order to heat and dispense the repellent effectively. If your wearing the device and it's in the vertical, it's not heating the repellent MAT effectively it's only being heated to about 50%. The clip and holster are only meant for transporting the device hands free.
-
Our tests have shown that the amount of ingredient deposited on surfaces near the Thermacell device is below what even sophisticated scientific instruments can measure, which is less than one billionth of a gram on one cm2. But, in instances where the product is used around fruit and vegetable production, we recommend as best practice that the produce should be thoroughly washed before consumption.
-
There are no EPA or other governing agency use restrictions for use around children. The science and data on our ingredients indicate that they should not be of concern, if used according to label instructions, for people or pets. Thermacell's extensive data is thoroughly reviewed by the US EPA and multiple other regulatory agencies around the world in the product approval process. The review process includes evaluating pregnant women, infants and toddlers. You should always use according to the label instructions. If you have questions about using the product around your children, you should contact your physician.

Thermacell Repellers may be used around fire pits or camp fires. For safety, we recommend that the repellers be no closer than three feet from the fire. Performance may also be affected if the repeller is too hot.
-
Do not expose Thermacell appliances or mats to rain. Their effectiveness may be diminished. If your Thermacell device does gets wet, please ensure it is fully dry inside and out before your next use.
-
In breezy weather, place the unit upwind of your location so that the repellent is carried by the wind into the area you want to protect. Thermacell may be less effective on very windy days, although mosquitoes aren't typically out when it is very windy.
-
The US EPA and WHO have concluded that there is a reasonable certainty that no harm will result to bees or other terrestrial wildlife if using the product according to label instructions. The mosquito repellent vapors produced by our product rapidly disseminate in the air and little of the repellent ingredient falls on surfaces such as surrounding foliage where bees might land. Our mosquito products are also most often used in the evening when bees are returning to their nest (also true of butterflies and other foraging insects). If you raise bees, avoid using repellent in the immediate vicinity of the bee hives.
-
All of our formulations and active ingredients have been evaluated for potential human, animal, and environmental exposure scenarios. Data supporting these evaluations has been thoroughly reviewed and accepted by the US EPA and multiple regulatory agencies around the world. As such, they are approved for use when used as directed.
-
There are no restrictions on the use of our products in backyards or anywhere food may be served. Please, be sure to always use the product according to the label instructions.
-
Thermacell products are for outdoor use only and should not be used in enclosed spaces. You should always follow label use instructions.

- The Rechargeable repellers (Radius, E55, EX55, E90 and E90X) have no altitude limitations.
- LIV Smart Repellent System has no altitude limitations.
We hope this helps answer your question, please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
-
Thermacell Fuel/Mat powered products can not be taken on a passenger aircraft. We typically suggest that you bring your Thermacell repeller and the mats with you, but purchase the fuel cartridges at your destination, if possible. Please, click here for a list of retailers in the United States or Canada.

Please ensure that you screw it down the Backpacker completely vertical. Do not hold it an angle as the gas canister will create condensation if held at an angle. This can cause the regulator to be impaired.
Next please ensure that you screw the device down on the the gas canister fully (hand-tight).
Then turn the device on and listen for the gas flow, if you hear the hisssss of the gas releasing, let it do this for about 20 seconds, then hit the igniter a few times. If it still doesn't work, please let us know and we'll take the next steps in replacing the device. Thank you.
-
The Backpacker will work down to at least 50F.

As of right now, the LIV System is only available in the United States and cannot be shipped or sold outside the United States. This is because of various country-specific regulations and registration laws. If in the future, we decide to launch it in any other countries, we will update our website, https://www.thermacell.com under where to buy. Please make sure to check for any updates there.
-
LIV requires 120V GFCI outlet.
-
Each LIV system forms a 20-foot zone of protection (a 10-foot radius in any direction from the repeller). That's a minimum of 315 sq. ft. of coverage from each repeller.
-
Due to different country-specific regulations, the LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System is only available in the United States currently.
-
LIV is currently registered for use for repelling mosquitoes. As we continue to develop and collect data for performance against other insects, we will update in accordance with EPA regulations.
-
There are no water restrictions on the label. However, we recommend installing repellers at least 10 feet away from water.
-
There are no water restrictions on the label. However, be cautious around Koi ponds by placing the repellers at least 10' away
-
The LIV system uses low voltage cabling that is daisy chained from the hub to each repeller in the chain to be able to power the system.
-
Repellent cartridges are sold in 6 packs.
-
LIV repeller cables are available in both 10 and 24 lengths, providing you with flexible options. Each repeller comes with a 24' cable. Cables can be connected together to form different lengths as well.
-
LIV cartridges are only compatible with the LIV smart Mosquito Repellent system.
-
The repellent cartridges are sold separately from repellers.
-
LIV works with 2.4 GHz network.
-
Before integrating a LIV system, it is important to conduct a Wi-Fi speed test to ensure compatibility with the smart home device. Just like ring doorbells and other smart home devices, LIV requires a minimum internet speed of 100 MBPS for a seamless onboarding experience.
-
Various factors, such as the distance between you and the router, obstacles obstructing the signal, and disruptions in the provider's service, can all contribute to a less-than-ideal Wi-Fi connection strength.
-
LIV works best with WPA2 encryption types (standard for most home Wi-Fi networks)
-
The maximum height is 2'-4' above ground level to be most effective
-
To ensure maximum accesibility for the end-user, it is recommended that the hub be mounted vertically in a prominent location. One solution is to affix a wooden or alternative frame to the house and securely mount the hub onto it.
-
The repellers are not hermetically sealed. However, they are designed to withstand the impact of water jets, sprinklers, and even heavy rain but not submersion in water.
-
Make an attempt to connect to the 2.4GHz network independently. In case this proves unsuccessful, you might have to temporarily disable the 5 GHz network in order to successfully onboard the LIV system. Once the device has successfully onboarded, you can turn the 5 GHz network back on. It is advisable to contact your internet provider for further assistance.
-
LIV refill repellent cartridges if left sealed in its original packing, has a shelf life for two- three years before there is any degrading of the repellent chemical.
-
There are no restrictions on the installation and use of the LIV Smart Repellent System in backyards or where food may be served. Please be sure to always use the product according to the label instructions.
-

Once the main account holder has connected their system, simply navigate to Share Access from the menu and add the email address of the person you want to share access with. If you want to remove access to your system, follow the same steps to clear access from the app.
-
Each LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System repellent cartridge has a life of approximately 40 hours of use. Depending on the climate, repellant may be released at different rates. For that reason it is a good idea to replace repellant when the refill life in the app states 30%. If connected to LIV+, the app shows you the approximate amount of remaining repellent. When you replace the repellent cartridge, make sure to reset the tracker on the app so that it shows you the correct amount of repellent remaining in the new cartridge. You can also do a visual check of the level of repellent liquid in the cartridge periodically to verify repellent remaining. If not connected to the app, the repeller lights flash at varying intervals to indicate low levels of repellent. When replacing cartridges, press and hold the hub button for 3 seconds, the LED ring around the button will blink 3 times, indicating the refill life has been reset. To change the LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System repellant cartridges, first remove the hood from the repeller by turning quarter turn counter-clockwise.

If you are having issues setting up your repellers or if they are not all lighting up correctly, please follow the troubleshooting sequence to identify error source and remediate:
- Ensure cables are connected and secure.
- Check each cable connection to ensure connectors are tight, there is no dirt in or obvious damage to connector pins.
- Ensure that any non-buried cabling is inspected for damage (e.g. rodents, sharp implements, etc.).
- Visually inspect ingress cable to repeller #1 to ensure cable integrity If no issues are found, bypass repeller #1 by connecting the end of cable 1 to the beginning of cable 2.
- Attempt to initialize the system manually and observe.
- If system does not function normally, then follow step #3. Step #3 Swap cable 1 and connect the Hub and Repeller #1 with a new cable, or cable 2 (if easily accessible and not buried). Alternative option is to directly connect repeller #1 to hub with ingress cable (pigtail lead). If repeller functions normally, replace cable 1 and inform Thermacell.
-
If there is still liquid in the pods, the repellers will emit the repellant like normal. However, if the repeller is a solid red this means the refill is empty. If the repeller is flashing periodic red the refill is getting low. 10 minutes between flash equals 25 % refill remaining, 5 minutes between flash equals 10% refill remaining, 30 seconds between flash equals 5% refill remaining. Please note after replacing refill, you must reset refill life, by using the LIV app or manually.
-
Thermacell offers the convenience of sending a replacement directly to you or the option to purchase high-quality wood screws in a size #10.

The US EPA and WHO have concluded that there is reasonable certainty that no harm will result to the environment from use of the product. We will be approaching the EPA with additional data, which we hope will allow us to be clearer going forward about the products safety around water. In the meantime, we must recommend as best practice to run battery powered Thermacell repellers 10 feet away from a body of water and 7.5 feet away if you are using the Multi Insect repellent. Thermacell products should not be applied to water per label instructions. Thank you

Our rechargeable platform repellent cartridges use metofluthrin as the repellent active ingredient. The inactive ingredients in the product are isoparaffinic solvents used to dissolve and act as carriers for our repellent.
-
Refills for Rechargeable Repellers include the following: Radius, E55, E90, EX55 and EX90. There is only one type of refill available for rechargeable repellers These are available in 36 hours (one 36-hour cartridge) 120 hours (three 40-hour cartridges)
-
Our rechargeable devices have a built-in rechargeable li-ion battery for power and use a single liquid repellent cartridge. This differs from fuel-powered repellers, which use a fuel cartridge to heat and activate the repellent mat. Rechargeable products are also TSA compliant, so you can bring on an airplane. When purchasing refills, be sure you are ordering the correct type of refill for your repeller. Battery powered repellers use the "rechargeable" refills.
-
Both the E-Series (E55/E90) and the EX-Series (EX55/EX90) are battery powered and rechargeable repellers. They are both highly effective against mosquitoes. There are a few differences between the two products which I listed below:
- EX series has the following features:
- Rubber armored protection for impact resistance.
- Locking top.
- Integrated lanyard and carabiner for transport.
- EX90 has a 9-hour charge per use.
I hope this information is helpful.

-
For the Radius, maximum repellency performance occurs within 10 feet around the device (110 sq ft). Repellency may extend beyond this range, but the level of protection will decline as you go further from the device.
-
It will begin creating a zone of protection around the device within minutes, but to experience optimal results in the full zone, the repeller should be allowed to run for at least 15 minutes.
-
The EL55 with deliver 9 hrs without the light and 5.5 hrs if using the light.
-
The Radius is 3.35(8.5cm) tall x 3.18(8.1cm) wide x 2(5.1cm) deep
-
If your battery powered repeller will not turn on, first, confirm a refill is inserted properly.
Second, make sure the top and bottom of the device are fully nested.
Third, check to make sure the repeller is charged.

The Thermacell Radius Gen2 device has the below improvements over the Gen1.
- Improved Sonic Welds on the top cover.
- Improved Air Flow.
- Improved Repellent Dispersal.
- Simplified User Control.
- Improved PC Board.
- Improved Battery.
-
The Radius battery has a capacity of 3250 mAH, or a rating of 12.35 watt hours. It can absolutely be charged with a portable power bank or solar charger. When using alternate charging, never use a source providing more than 5V(rare). We recommend using a minimum 1A output to charge. Charging current less than 500mA may not work. I hope this helps answer your question.
-
The flashing yellow light on the Radius means the battery is low and needs to be charged.
-
We understand you are having an issue with your Radius where you cannot get it to power on. If you see blinking lights when trying to power it on:
First, try unlocking the device (if your device has this feature):
- Remove it from it's charger and hold the power button in for 5 seconds or longer, it should blink to indicate "locked mode" is now turned off. If there are no lights present:
- Does the battery indicator light turn on when you insert a charging cable? If no:
- Make sure cable is inserted fully into the charge port - If charging using a USB port in a computer, please charge using a standard wall outlet - Allow up to 5 minutes for the device to indicate that it is charging the battery indicator should begin to blink once battery has minimum power.
- Does the battery indicator light turn on when you insert a charging cable? If no:
If these steps do not work, please contact us.
- Remove it from it's charger and hold the power button in for 5 seconds or longer, it should blink to indicate "locked mode" is now turned off. If there are no lights present:
-
If your Radius will not stop blinking, first, if your device has a lock mode, try unlocking it.
- Remove it from it's charger and hold the power button in for 5 seconds or longer, it should blink 3 times and shut off.
- Then press and hold the on button for no more than 1-2 seconds, it should turn on and the LED will stay solid.
If that still did not work, try the following:
- Ensure nothing is blocking the connection from the bottom of the device and the top of the device.
- Ensure the device top is securely seated on top of the bottom, try removing the top and replacing.
- Ensure there is a cartridge in the device
Please let us know if you have done these steps and what the result was in order for us to help you from there.
-
For the rechargeable repeller, when your battery is too low, you will hear a 3 same note signal. If your device's battery is too low to turn on, all 3 battery lights flash but the last light is red.
-
If your battery powered repeller will not turn off, press and HOLD the power button for 2 seconds until you hear the descending chime and all illumination around the on/button turns off. If the top is removed, the unit will automatically turn off.
-
If your rechargeable refill leaks, please wipe off any repellent residue with a cloth or paper towel from the repeller. The refill should still be good to use in your repeller.
-
Occasionally, condensation can occur on the rechargeable repeller. This is normal. Wipe clean with a rag or paper towel
-
If your battery powered device is not repelling, ensure that there is a refill with repellent in the device. Ensure that the unit is on and that the 4 LEDs are solid Place the device and power on 15 minutes prior to sitting down Place device at the center of the desired area to be protected
-
If your Radius will not turn on, please make sure device is charged. Recharging time is almost equal to run time, so it can take almost 6 hours for a full charge. Ensure the top is fully seated on the repeller, the unit will not power on without the top
-
On initial production it is possible for the battery status indicator to remember the last power state prior to charging. Turn the unit on and recheck the battery status after 30 seconds. It will read the true level.

Our products contain active ingredients that repel mosquitos and inactive ingredients that assist with their release into the air. Our products contain active ingredients that repel mosquitos and inactive ingredients that assist with their release into the air. Our fuel platform repellent mats use d-allethrin or Prallethrin as the repellent active ingredient. The inactive ingredients include isopropl myristate, a phenolic preservative, pertroleum disllates and blue dye.
-
When used as directed, Thermacell products only repel mosquitoes. If left confined within the zone of repellent for extended periods, the mosquito may be killed. Thermacell products are tested in real world situations against dense populations of mosquitoes. They have been proven effective against multiple types of mosquitoes including those most likely to be troublesome to people. Our efficacy studies are reviewed by the US EPA and multiple regulatory bodies around the world as a part of the product approval process.
-
Thermacell has submitted product performance data showing that our prallethrin mat product works against black flies and biting gnats or no-see-ums. These data are currently under review by the U.S. EPA and we cannot make claims on these insects until we have their approval. Our other platforms do not yet have performance data associated with additional insects submitted to support similar claims. Thermacell has tested our products against the yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) and they work very well against these mosquitoes. We also found they are effective against Asian Tiger mosquitos as well. The Thermacell product will be effective against mosquitoes day or night.
-
If your fuel powered device is not repelling, ensure your device is running, and you can see the orange glow in the view window. Ensure you are using a fresh blue mat. Please remember to allow up to 15 minutes for the repellent to build in the area. Stay within a 7.5 foot radius of the repeller for optimum protection. If there is wind/air movement, keep the repeller upwind from the area you want protection for best results, but overall effectiveness may be decreased if there is constant air movement. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you.
-
The US EPA and WHO have concluded that there is reasonable certainty that no harm will result to the environment from use of this product, therefore they are approved to be used near bodies of water, fish ponds, while fishing, at the beach or swimming.
-
The cover for the Patio Shield was designed as a decorative "cap" to put on the top of the device when not in use. It is not required for the repeller to function. We stopped producing these caps some time ago when we learned that the caps were causing confusion and users were running their repellers with the cap on. The cap can also trap debris in the device as well. These lead to negative experiences with the product, so we chose to remove the cap going forward. We're sorry for any confusion this may have caused, and recognize that due to the timing of the change, some of our packaging may have continued to show a cap.

Tick tubes contain permethrin and cotton. It is registered with the EPA and has met their safety standards meaning the product does not pose risks to human health or the environment when used as directed by the label. Tick control tubes use a tiny amount of permethrin in a very targeted manner to kills ticks. Unlike permethrin sprays, this product is NOT sprayed on vegetation or crops, therefore it does not harm beneficial bugs, crops or vegetation. General fact sheets on permethrin are just that general, and focus on sprayed permethrin, not trace amounts used in tubes.
-
When used as directed, Thermacell Tick Control Tubes do not have any outdoor environmental use restrictions. Unused product should not be placed in indoor or outdoor drains. Unused product should be discarded in the trash.
-
It would be rare for birds to find the tick tube cotton and nest with it, contact with the treated material wont harm birds. The active ingredient in tick tubes is known to be low toxicity to birds. In fact, it can be applied to birds in a powder form to prevent ticks. While animals might carry trace amounts on their fur, it doesn't harm them as shown in the extensive mouse studies conducted where mice nesting in the treated material produced normal offspring for multiple generations.
-
The active ingredient in tick tubes is known to have low toxicity to birds. Additionally, the EPA states that the risk to birds is below the agencys level of concern; Mice carry only tiny amounts of the active ingredient on their fur after exposure to tick tubes - enough to kill ticks, but not enough to affect birds.
-
Tick Tubes effect on reptiles: There are sprays on the market that use a permethrin mixture applied directly to reptiles that doesnt harm them.
-
Thermacell Tick Control uses a permethrin treated material targeted specifically at ticks, rather than a spray or granule that is broadly distributed. The cotton is primarily found inside tick tubes or in a mouse nest. Because the permethrin is bound to fibers, beneficial bugs are rarely exposed to Thermacell.
-
Permethrin is the main ingredient in our Tick Tubes and comes in many concentrations and forms. Permethrin has been approved for use by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in human and animal health products. Permethrin used at the correct dose, in a proper formulation, and according to label instructions, has been used for over 40 years by people in a variety of applications. Examples include lice and scabies treatments for humans and flea, tick and mosquito prevention products for dogs, birds and livestock and for use on/in numerous food/feed crops. The amount of permethrin in Thermacell Tick Control Tubes is sufficient to kill ticks but does not affect the mice that nest with it, other animals, or the environment. Tick tubes have been approved by the EPA and millions of tubes have been sold without any report of adverse effects.
-
Safety is very important to us at Thermacell. Please note that in more than 20 years the EPA has no complaints on file regarding tick tubes and cats, and there are no published reports regarding tick tubes and cats. Additionally, Thermacell has no consumer complaints about tick tubes and cats. We take cat safety very seriously because there are records of cats harmed by products made specifically for dogs that contain a high (45%-65%) liquid permethrin concentrate that is applied directly to a dogs coat. This highly concentrated liquid form of permethrin is safe for dogs but can harm cats. In comparison, Thermacell Tick Control Tubes contain only 7.4% permethrin imbedded in cotton. Our calculations show permethrin bound to cotton is much less potent than a liquid concentrate applied directly to the skin. Additionally, cat behavior shows that cats are unlikely to come in contact with Tick Control Tubes. Indoor cats would never encounter Tick Control Tubes, and outdoor cats are primarily interested in moving objects or animals that they can pounce on, play with and or kill. In contrast Tick Control Tubes are inanimate objects placed in areas not directly visible to cats and have no smell or taste that would attract a cat.Even if a cat were to find a tick tube and attempt to eat some of the cotton, it is unlikely to harm a cat. Studies show that cotton is very difficult to swallow so cats would have difficulty consuming the cotton. Cats rely on chewing to break down their food, but chewing will not break up the cotton fibers. Licking the cotton, considered unlikely, would not result in cats consuming a harmful amount of permethrin. Although unlikely, we also considered the possibility that cats might remove the cotton from the tube and play with it. Scientific review shows low risk to cats even if they were to regularly lie on the cotton the amount of dermal exposure for the cat is far below their exposure to the liquid spot flea products that cause harm to cats. In summary, Thermacell Tick Control Tubes are unlikely to harm cats from either oral or dermal exposure.
-
The EPA has no published reports, nor records of any incidents associated with the use of permethrin-treated tick tubes. It is very difficult to swallow the cotton from the tick tubes. Dogs rely on chewing for their food. Chewing will not break down the cotton fibers. Even if a puppy could ingest parts of the cotton, it would not contain enough permethrin to affect them.
-
Dogs are not likely to be harmed by Tick Control Tubes. Tick Control Tubes are camouflaged and do not have an odor that would attract dogs. Dogs tolerate permethrin well. In fact, high permethrin liquid concentration (45-65%) spot products such as K9 Advantix ll have been approved by the EPA for use on dogs. Dogs tolerate oral exposure to permethrin. When topical dog products such as K9 Advantix ll are applied to dogs (usually between the shoulder blades), the Permethrin spreads quickly over the coat[1] to protect the animal from infestation by ticks and fleas. As part of this process a significant transferable residue of permethrin is present on the coat1 and can be ingested by the dog during grooming. This behavior shows that dogs tolerate high dermal doses with concomitant oral exposure to permethrin. Toxicity calculations[2] show that even in worst-case scenarios, dogs will not be harmed by Tick Control Tubes. Assume a small dog weighing only two pounds tears apart a Tick Control Tube and mouths the cotton for ninety minutes, swallowing small bits of cotton in the process. Even in this extreme example the exposure level to permethrin is acceptable, meaning the exposure level is below the level that would produce an adverse effect. The information above is supported by the fact that in over 20 years and millions of tick tubes sold, there have been no complaints filed with the EPA regarding Tick Control Tubes.
-
The EPA has determined it is reasonable to assume no harm to infants and children based on the existing data for permethrin in Tick Tubes
-
Tick Tubes effect on squirrel and chipmunks: Unlike mice, chipmunks and squirrels do not make nests with cotton. That said, chipmunks are not the main host for ticks and dont transmit Lyme disease at the rate that mice do. Squirrels do not collect cotton for their nests, they use leaves.
-
Tick tubes effect on voles and moles: Voles and moles will use the treated cotton. That said, white-footed mice are the primary hosts for young deer ticks that carry Lyme disease, though voles may also transmit the disease to ticks.
-
Tick tubes works best against deer ticks (also known as black-legged ticks) and the diseases they carry because their immature ticks feed on mice. It does not work on ticks like lone star ticks that do not feed on mice.
-
Sometimes it takes a few weeks for mice to find the cotton. Occasionally tubes are placed too far out in the open so mice dont take the cotton because they are afraid of predators. Moving tubes to more protected places like in a shed, along a rock wall, or a few feet into the woods on the perimeter of the property can increase cotton collection. This video on how to apply tick control tubes may be helpful.
-
Field mice are nocturnal so you may not know that you have them. They are common to all parts of the US. Immature ticks feed primarily on mice in most parts of the country. If you for some reason you dont have any mice, then Tick Control Tubes wont provide the results expected. Deer provide an important blood meal for adult ticks but they dont pass on diseases to ticks. Mice feed immature ticks and ticks and mice and ticks pass diseases between one another. Therefore its important to use mice to kill these immature ticks before they pass diseases on to humans.
-
If you applied your first tick tubes in April or May, the best time to reapply is in July. Larval ticks hatch in July and feed in August and September. Our goal is to kill them now before they turn into next years dangerous nymphs Mice only live a year in the wild. They have babies in the spring that are adults by July (60 days only from gestation to maturity), so even if we treated in May, 60 days later (July) there are new mice to treat. Also, keep an eye on the tick tubes you have deployed. If mice take all of the cotton from a tube, then replace it with a new tube.It might mean there is a large population of mice in the area and more cotton is needed to treat them.
-
Nymphal ticks emerge in May and are out in the yard in June and July. Larval (baby) ticks emerge in August and September. Tick tubes can kill both types of young ticks.
-
We recommend placing tick tubes around your entire property. Ticks can attach to mice or other animals in one part of the yard and then drop off in another part of the yard. Place tubes in protected places mice are likely to frequent such as inside sheds, under decks, along stonewalls, or under bushes.
-
Tick Tubes are still effective if they get wet. The coating on the outside of the tubes protects them from rain, as does placement in areas protected from weather such as under bushes or inside sheds. If the cotton does get wet, it will dry out once the weather improves. Dont place tubes in areas likely to flood.
-
Tick Control Tubes kill young ticks that feed on mice before ticks can pass diseases on to people or pets. Best results occur after the tubes have been used for a season so larval and nypmhal ticks can be killed. Tick Control tubes have been shown to provide greater than a 90% reduction of ticks but results vary based on a few variables including the presence of alternate tick hosts such as pets and deer which can bring ticks into the yard from the neighborhood or woods.
-
Thermacell Tick Tubes should be used outside the home and do not attract mice. Presence of Tick Tubes will not influence where mice build their nests.
-
Tick Tubes are currently available in in the continental US and Canada. Tick Tubes are effective at killing the ticks (black-legged ticks) that carry Lyme Disease. So they should be used wherever Lyme Disease occurs, generally in midwestern, eastern and far western parts of North America.
-
Cotton and Permethrin are the only ingredients in Tick Tubes.
-
For Tick Tubes, store at room temperature in an area inaccessible to children or pets. Disposal: Do not reuse or refill this container. If empty: place it in the trash. If partly filled: Call your local solid waste agency for disposal instructions.
-
Tick Control Tubes work best on black-legged ticks, also known as deer ticks, which carry bacteria that cause Lyme disease, Powassan virus and other dangerous diseases. Tick Control Tubes kill this species of tick because young deer ticks feed on mice. Tick Control Tubes do not work as well against other tick species that feed on other animals such as dog ticks which feed primarily on dogs.
-
Tick Control Tubes will start to kill ticks in your yard a few weeks after you apply them. Each mouse can pick up over 10 ticks a day and hundreds in a season, so you will see a decrease in ticks in your yard as mice take up the permethrin treated cotton and use it to line their nests. Putting Tick Control Tubes out in the spring kills nymphal ticks that hatch in April and feed from May until July. These ticks are the ones that most often spread diseases to humans. Reapply tick tubes in the late summer to kill baby larval ticks that hatch in July and feed in August and September. These larval ticks become next year's dangerous nymphal ticks.;By killing both nymphal and larval ticks in year 1, you will signifcantly reduce the tick population in your yard and see a marked decrease in ticks the next summer. Reapply tick tubes each season for best results.
-
To make an effective barrier with the Tick Tubes, it's best to put down two rows of tubes in a grid pattern. Place the tubes every 10 yards along the border of your yard and the woods. Then put down a 2nd row of tubes 10 yards behind the first row in the woods spaced 10 yards apart. Start this 2nd row 5 yards to the right of the first row so that the tubes in the 2nd row fall in between the tubes in the first row, which makes a grid pattern.
-
Tick Tubes are currently available on this website, Amazon.com, and other retail partners.
-
Thermacell Tick Control Tubes will last for multiple years. Permethrin treated material is very stable and does not deteriorate quickly. Unused product should be stored at room temperature in the original container for use the following year.
-
Tests show that mice exposed to specially treated peremthrin fibers exhibit no reduction in survival or reproductive success when compared with non-exposed mice.
-
Tick tubes can withstand sub-freezing temperatures.
-
You can find the guide here.
-
Permethrin acts by contact with the tick. It disrupts the nervous system, quickly causing paralysis and death of ticks.

The MATS have two chemicals on them. the first chemical is the repellent. The second chemical is a timed released blue dye. The blue dye, can fade in some cases in a short period of time, but the repellent remains on the MAT for the full 3-4 hours. Our testing shows that after 4 hours, 25% is still on the mat.You can leave the Mats in even if they turn white a bit sooner than you expected. The environment can cause this to happen as well: heat, humidity, wind. and altitude. We recommend just leaving them in for the full 3-4 hours even if they seem to be turning white. if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you,
-
Our tests show that if left in their foil wrappers and stored in a cool dry location, even after 5 years, the mats only lose about 3-5% of the repellent effectiveness. So our mats have a long shelf life.
-
Our MATs work in the following manner: The Regular and earth scent MATS should be placed in the device and centered. The Long Life MATS which are approximately 3x the size of the regular MATs should be centered in the device as well. There is not need to move or slide the long life mat on the repeller grill. Neither sets of MATs require moving or turning over. The heat from the device will draw the repellent to the center of Heat Plate and disperse the repellent. Additionally our MATS do not need to be flipped over to make use of the other side. Please remember after handling a new or used MAT to wash your hands thoroughly. Thank you
-
A Thermacell Repellent Mat should be replaced when it turns white. Each mat lasts for up to 4 hours of continuous use.
-
It is normal for a used mat to be dark brown on the bottom and almost white on the top
-
You can use Thermacell Repellent Mats for a period of time less than four hours and they will still be effective. If there is going to be a significant amount of time between usages (several days +), we suggest that you keep the mats in their foil packaging or in a sealed plastic bag between uses.
-
Thermacell cares about sustainability and we are continually striving to reduce our environmental impact. Currently, all new packaging is created with 80-100% post-consumer content and repellent cartridges in our rechargeable platform uses 68% less plastic on a per hour basis compared to earlier products. This is a great start, but we realize we still have some work to do to reach our sustainability goal.
