BRIDGE TO NATURE
At Thermacell Repellents, we truly believe that a deep connection to the outdoors can bring out the best in anyone. Because of this, we support several organizations that help people experience the outdoors in a way they normally would not be able to. We are currently supporting Big City Mountaineers, The Food Project, and the European Outdoor Conversation Association.
BIG CITY MOUNTAINEERS
Big City Mountaineers (BCM) works alongside the transformative powers of Mother Nature to leave a lasting impact on the lives of under-resourced youth. Their wilderness expeditions bring kids out of their comfort zones and into the wild, where they develop the confidence needed for more promising futures. The programs focus on improving the self-esteem, sense of responsibility, group communication and decision-making skills of nearly 1,000 youth annually.
In 2018, over half of all Thermacell employees hopped on our bikes and road a collective 600 miles on the Freedom Trail to raise over $24,000 to help get under-resourced youth outdoors with BCM. Thermacell matched each donation up to $1,000 per employee, and at least 24 kids will benefit!
In 2017, many members of the Thermacell team raised money for BMC by climbing Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. This was a challenging climb, although it couldn’t have been more rewarding as we raised enough funding to sponsor excursions for at least 20 kids!
Let's see what 2019 brings...
THE FOOD PROJECT
The Food Project engages young people in personal and social change through sustainable agriculture. Each year, they work with 120 teenagers and thousands of volunteers to farm on 70 acres in eastern Massachusetts. The Food Project focuses on identifying and transforming a new generation of leaders by placing teens in increasingly responsible roles. Food from the farm is distributed throughout the community, and the young people working in the programs participate in all distribution streams which gives them valuable job experiences and a personal connection to our food system.
In both 2017 and 2018, about half of all Thermacell employees volunteered in a half-day event with The Food Project. The volunteer work included planting, mulching, weeding, raking leaves and brush, and other tasks to help maintain the farm.
It was great to get out of the office and get our hands dirty!
EUROPEAN OUTDOOR CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION
Making a Difference Through Conservation – the European Outdoor Industry in Action
The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) is a non-profit organization set up to combine the collective efforts of companies working in the European outdoor industry to raise funds to protect, conserve and restore threatened wild landscapes and habitats.
With over 160 member companies, the organization is involved in 125 conservation projects worldwide, including: trail renovations, forest restoration, habitat improvements for elephants, brown bears, river dolphins, raptors, and falcons, and cleared tons of rubbish from mountains and seas. As awareness of climate change and the damage man is doing to the environment grows, so too the importance of the work of EOCA increases.
